The Germ 500 MKII is an updated version of our original Germ 500.

This unit has an improved faceplate layout and nicer look. It uses classic germanium transistors in all Class A, transformer balanced circuits.

The Germ 500 MKII is our well-known Germanium Preamp adapted for 500 series racks. We use the same transformers and amp blocks to assure the sound is consistent with our rack version.

We've updated the power on the MKII so there no known power-up issues with current lunchboxes and rack systems.

Ships Mid-September 2011

We've been told by beta testers that this might be the best piece of Chandler gear yet! What makes the Little Devil Pre so special? Well, several things.

The Class A gain stage sounds like no other design we've done. It's big, yet open and full of life. Just about any parameter of the sound is changeable including the ability to change both the Feedback and Bias of the amplifier. The Feedback control increases harmonics thousands of times over the range of the control. The nature of clipping and distortion also changes and ranges from soft Class A clipping to super soft gushy tube type. The sounds range from a very colored and "overbiased" tone to a gently colored and "in your face" tone.

Other features of the Little Devil Pre include High and Low input impedance; transformer balanced line in for using the Devil as a color box on mixes or tracks; low cut; bright switch and more! This unit has no power-up issues with lunchboxes and rack systems.

"I love the Devil! First it was the Devil EQ and compressor, now the preamp and insane boost pedal! I tried the preamp on kick and snare comparing to some of my other favorites and it came out on top by a wide margin. Everyone in the room wanted a pair. I don't know how Wade does it, but with volumes matched between different preamps, the Devil just sounds . . . MORE! Great low end. Adjustable attitude with the feedback control . . . and that bright switch! Perfect to liven up a 57 or a ribbon mic."

—Ryan Hewitt (Avett Brothers, Red Hot Chili Peppers)

"I don't know how you did it, but this mic pre has a superb clarify, but still tons of character and it has a great mid-range punch without losing bottom or top end, which could make it my top choice for electric guitars (right now it's the TG-2, so it would at least stay in the family). The feedback control lets you add more harmonic content to the sound and push it way forward. The bright switch opens up a vocal track really nicely. Tried it on electric guitar and vocals so far, which is quite a spectrum for a mic pre, and it kicks butt on both. Awesome box. Man, you did it again. It's amazing how your stuff always stands out from the crowd. Everything's got its own distinct sound and it totally hits my taste. You are creating the "modern vintage"! Plug it in and it makes you feel better, no kidding (I used to have to listen to Back in Black to make me feel better). Great job, Wade."
—Michael Wagener

"I used the Devil pre on electric guitar, comparing it to 1073s, 312s and TG-2s. It sounded amazing, super open sounding, and full low end. The feedback control was awesome, added serious mojo to the sound. I am a huge fan of all of the other pres Wade makes, but this one might take the cake! I cannot wait to get my hands on another one or 4! It would make a rad channel strip combined with the Little Devil EQ and Compressor.
—Shawn Dealey, Engineer, Counting Crows

"I have tried the pre on acoustic and electric guitars and vocals. All outstanding! The highs are so silky and the mids and lows are creamy yet tight! The Devil pre sounds amazing, Wade. I compared it to a few I have and mine just pale in comparison. It seriously has to be one of the best preamps that I have heard."
—Stuart Niven, Sweetwater Sound

The Little Devil EQ is a small package with a huge sound. It is a Chandlerized British console sound in a 500 package.

This Devil has all discrete circuits with custom transformers, an inductor-based EQ that modern gyrator circuits can't touch, and a classic Baxendall tone control that is simply huge sounding! These units are all handmade using through-hole components and handwiring. We don't use surface mount components which, in our opinion, lowers the quality. Chandler's units are extremely high-quality made the way your favorite vintage units were made to preserve that special sound.

Please note that all Devils feature increased compatibility! No power issues here!

Little Devil EQs and Little Devil Compressors have been upgraded to eliminate the power conflict experienced with some 3rd party racks and lunchboxes.  The upgrade has been tested in the racks listed above.  Any Little Devil EQ or Little Devil Compressor with compatibility issues can be returned to Chandler Limited for a free upgrade (parts and labor), however, Chandler Limited will not cover shipping costs.

"The Little Devil EQ is ALL business!!! It has been getting a workout.... I find myself sticking it on shit that doesn't even need any EQ just to see how much better it can get!"
—Blues Saraceno

"Been using them both (compressor and EQ) and I really love the tone. Man you can't beat hand made hardware. The units look great and are built like tanks . . . Instantly you could hear the tone of the hardware, it was a beautiful thing."
—James Lugo

The Little Devil Compressor is a mixture of all that is Chandler. It combines elements of our LTD-2 and Germanium Compressor, as well as 2264 and 33609 units, into an all new compressor for a 500 format. Discrete transformer sound and handmade quality are the make up of the Devil Comp.

If you like any of the units that inspired it, you will enjoy seeing those sounds come to the next level. Revolutionary controls like wet/dry, sidechain filter, and curve selection make the unit extremely flexible. When combined with its intense tone, this compressor gives you a powerful package in a small box!
